The day we went all around the Motu
About: This video is about a group of people that went to film extra footage, around Auckland. Here are some of them.
Notes from class
In class we discussed what ISO, Shutter and Aperture was and what its used for.
ISO:- this is a setting that controls light- When shooting in a dark area, its best to turn the ISO up. This gives you an effect of what your eyes naturally see, not the lens.- For the best quality, use a low ISO, esp when shooting in the day time.- The higher the ISO, the noisier your footage gets.
Aperture (F/stop):
- This setting is used to control the lighting in the camera. This is used to control how much light you want, in and out of your footage/photo.
- Controls your focus, Depth of field.
- The lower the f.stop, more light comes in.
-the Higher the f/stop, less light enters.
Shutter:
- this setting controls the dramatic effects in filming/photography.
- allows you to shoot with more light/darkness in the film
- allows to freeze fast motion
- our shutter speed was kept at 1/50
Lighting and different sorts of equipments.
-Natural Diffusers
Negative fill:- blocks light and stops it from reflecting
Diffusion:- filtering the sun if theres too much exposure
High key lighting:- lots of light
Low key lighting:- seeing black, Angle direct light.
Rig:- used to stabilise camera movement, when hand holding the camera. Something that you put on your shoulders.
Name of lights:-
-red head
- Arrilite (800 watts) flood and spot
- Kino light (fluorescent light)
Sandbagging :- this is used to hold down the C-Stand, which holds the light and keeps them from falling.
Barn doors:- used to control how much light you want, to focus on a subject.
Extra notes:
The wider the lens, the more distance between the subjects. In line with the camera lens & the longer the lens, the closer the subject.
Follow focus:
marked by a whiteboard marker, so you know where to zoom.

About: This video is about a man that works on his little pieces that he uses to stick on his belt. He talks about how at an old age, that when he retires , he will do something that hes passionate about.
Structure: Wide shot amd extreme closeups are mostly used in this film. From my view, i recon that these shots are used to show the audience, the workshop that this man is working in and the tools that are being used to create this little product.
The start of the film starts of with a dolly shot - giving the audience a sense of what the workshop looks like. This then carry's onto the subject making his product.
Extreme close-up shot - showing the audience that he uses these tools and just one of those things that he works with.
Another extreme close up shown on the product that hes working on. Shows the audience the of how he engraves his work onto this flat piece of steel.
At 00:58 seconds - this exreme closeup on his face, must have been shot to show the emotion or passion that he has in him.
The last scene has been shot, showing everything in focus. A wide shot has been used to show the environment that hes working in, also the tools that he deals with. You can pretty much see everything that the director wants us to see.
Response: I like this film, because watching it over and over again, gave me a sense of what the director was trying too show us. From this film i learnt alot about camera techniques and why you should use them and how you should shoot a scene.

Video: A better Tomorrow

This video is about a little boy that has learnt from his father and does what his father has done alone. His father has left his kids alone in this world.
Camera techniques and others.
The video maker has shot scenes of the unexpected, where in the beginning a wide shot of the little boy is standing on the sea side and a closeup of his hands picking seaweeds.
Wide shot in this film are mostly used to show where these kids stay and the surroundings around them.
Extreme closeup has been used to show the emotion on these kids face when the little girl comes out of a dream.
The music 06:15, builds up when the watch a man has been looking for stolen by these kids father, magically brings a car in front of their eyes. The video maker then prepares to do a cartoon scene of theme in this car.
These camera techniques are some that i can maybe use to shoot my own memory video.
Daydreaming Italy: Lost in the Alps
Source: Video comes from the site Vimeo called "Daydreaming It{aly}: Lost in the Alps.
This video is about a man that travels through the Alps where he meets strangers and other people. He did this to come out of his shell, so he explored.
It starts of with a close up view of his shoes and zoom right out to the view of the forest. The film-maker could have just filmed himself walking through the forest and filming his feet shoes while walking but instead, they had a sense to show the surroundings that his in.
From 00:00 - 00:28, there has been multiple cuts to this beginning, which goes with the music. The sound of the clock ticking makes an effect of when it changes.
Extreme close up shots have been used to capture this clock. The number 12 is in focus and the arrow in the fore ground is out of focus.
02:35 - 03:31 - The music starts to build up, which causes the video-maker to put in a variety of videos and images that consisted of close ups on shoes, mid shots of the surroundings around him and wide shots which gave a sense of the place he was travelling around.
His closeups were mainly used to show the photo above and the clock, while it ticks.

Task: Memory video fav analysis
Video: Memories of Vietnamn
About: This video is about memories and footage that has been taken in Vietnamn. It shows where a family has explored and what they have done.
Structure: Through this film it shows a variety of shots that shows the joy of their trip. The videomaker could have just filmed themselves walking around the community they were in but shows every angle of what their eyes are looking at. The music in the background brings these memories to life where in the beginning ot starts of slowly and begins to build up, causing the video maker to cut footage to the beat.
Mostly wide shot has been used to show the whereabouts and motions that has taken place. Reverse effects take place in the traffic scene which goes with the music at 01:26 and where a lady/man is smoking at 02:22.
The camera movements and techiques is somthing that i can use in my second film and will really give me that feeling of having to be keen to edit what i have.
